Optometrist
Dr. Schneiderhan had several family members and friends in the medical profession as he was growing up, and after interning in doctors’ offices he knew he belonged in the medical profession as well. He enjoys being around people, building relationships, and improving the quality of life of his patients. Dr. Schneiderhan puts himself in the shoes of his patients and treats every patient as he would expect to be treated. His focus is primary eye care and has an emphasis on treatment and management of eye diseases, early detection of glaucoma and macular degeneration, contact lens fitting, and pediatric exams.
After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of North Dakota, Dr. Schneiderhan obtained his post-graduate degree and doctor of optometry at Pacific University in Oregon. While living on the West Coast, he knew the Midwest is where he wanted to practice optometry and moved back to Alexandria where he grew up.
With over 30 years of eye care experience, he feels fortunate to have worked in several areas of optometry services including private, retail, and hospital-based. His favorite setting is hospital-based because it provides a broader spectrum of care and the latest diagnostic technology. He sees himself as one person in a team of medical professionals who diagnose and treat the patient. If he believes he cannot provide the best care or treatment for his patients, he will find the appropriate person who can.
The professionalism and quality of care at Glacial Ridge Health System were essential components in Dr. Schneiderhan’s decision to join the team. He was attracted to the smaller community, the friendliness of the residents and businesses, and the ease of building relationships.
His favorite past-times include spending time with his family outdoors. They like to camp, fish, boat, and golf. He is also passionate about health and fitness and makes time to run, bike, and swim. Dr. Schneiderhan and his wife Kristin have two sons who are active and are enjoying their high school years.
